HMDS Generation III Subcontract awarded to ILS-INC
07/21/2010

ILS-INC was awarded a subcontract by NIITEK, Inc. to begin supporting the Generation III  Husky Mounted Detection System (HMDS) program managed by Product Manager-Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate (PM-NVESD).

The HMDS is a safety-of-life tool used for the detection of Anti-Tank landmines and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) located on primary and secondary roads.  The system enhances the capabilities of the Husky vehicle with an advanced, high-performance Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technology.  The HMDS detects both surface and buried underbelly threats and automatically marks their positions using road marking paint and GPS coordinates.  The system is designed for installation on the Husky MK II vehicle and is operated by the driver of the Husky.

ILS-INC was awarded its first subcontract to work on the HMDS AN/VSS-6 (Detecting Set, Mine) in January 2007.  Since that time, ILS-INC has been actively involved in the evolution of the HMDS from Generation I through Generation II, adaptations on the Generation II system for the Husky MK III, Canadian Army procurement of the Generation II systems, and now will begin working on the Generation III system.

ILS-INC will be responsible for: Safety Analysis, Safety Assessment Reports (SARs), Training Support Package, Operator and Field Maintenance Technical Manual with Illustrated Parts Breakdown.
